Whether you are waiting for a fiber installation, staying in a temporary rental, or you simply do not want to be tied down to a 1 or 2-year contract: the demand for flexible internet in Amsterdam is high. Fortunately, a long-term commitment is no longer mandatory. Currently, there are two excellent options available that offer a 1-month cancellation notice.
Below we compare the hard specifications of both technologies. This allows you to see at a glance what you gain or sacrifice with your choice.

Klik&Klaar (5G)
|
|---|---|---|
| Network Technology | Fiber Optic (Fixed physical line) | 5G Mobile Network (Wireless) (NOT fiber optic!)
Because we are a fiber internet comparison site, it is crucial to make this distinction clear: Klik&Klaar is a 5G home router. It pulls its internet signal through the air via Odido's mobile cell towers. This makes it incredibly flexible, but in terms of stability and latency, a wireless connection can never compete with a physical, buried fiber optic cable.

Extensive data and forum discussions (such as on the Dutch tech site Tweakers) show that Klik&Klaar is an absolute lifesaver for those who want instant internet without a contract. You plug the Zyxel 5G router into the wall, and you are online. The fact that you get a public dynamic IPv4 address (no CGNAT) is highly praised. Furthermore, you can easily take the Zyxel router with you to your next room or holiday home in the Netherlands.
However, stability experiences vary greatly in densely populated Amsterdam neighborhoods. During peak hours on the 5G network, speeds can dip, and the higher ping (latency between 20-40ms) makes it unsuitable for competitive online gamers. Users also report a short disconnect when the 24-hour session renews itself, and there is no official 'Bridge Mode' for power users who want to connect their own router.
If you are looking for absolute certainty, choose KPN. KPN fiber optic is ultra-stable, delivers symmetrical speeds up to 4 Gbit/s, and has a ping of less than 10ms. This is the gold standard for remote workers and demanding users in the capital.
The downside? You pay a premium. While 1-year contracts often come with hefty cashbacks or months of discounts, these welcome gifts are completely voided with a monthly cancellable contract. Additionally, it depends on the cabling: if the mechanic still needs to physically finalize the connection in your meter cupboard, you won't be online today.
It is too simplistic to say that one is simply 'better' than the other. It depends entirely on your living situation and your tolerance for occasional hiccups.
