Dominant Network: KPNThe historic heart of Amsterdam is world-famous, but those beautiful canal rings present significant challenges for telecom companies. While new residential areas can be connected in one go, the fiber optic rollout in the Centrum district is being done in careful phases.
In Amsterdam Centrum (which includes the Canal District, the Jordaan, and the Nieuwmarkt area), you often have to deal with protected cityscapes or monumental buildings. The municipality of Amsterdam imposes strict requirements on opening up the streets and drilling through historic facades.
Because of this, the installation by network operators like KPN Netwerk or Open Dutch Fiber (ODF) often takes longer than in other districts. In many streets, operators collaborate to ensure the pavement only has to be opened once.
Despite the obstacles, parts of the Centrum already have excellent infrastructure, especially for business connections. For consumers, the main players are:

Many buildings in the Center are divided into apartments. Extending the fiber optic cable (the 'vertical installation' from the basement to your floor) requires permission from the building owner or the Homeowners' Association (VvE). Without this permission, the connection stops at the shared meter cupboard on the ground floor, and you cannot activate your subscription.
Because the fiber network varies per neighborhood, here are the current prices from providers that are actually active in your specific postal code area.
