Fiber Internet in Weesp

Last updated:

Network: KPN & ODF Mix

Since March 24, 2022, Weesp has officially been an urban area of the municipality of Amsterdam. Where Weesp used to rely heavily on older copper networks (and Ziggo cable) for its internet infrastructure, a massive fiber optic rollout has taken place in recent years. Today, large parts of the city are equipped with super-fast internet, fully connecting Weesp digitally to the rest of Amsterdam.

Two Networks: KPN and Open Dutch Fiber

What makes Weesp unique is the fierce competition in the fiber optic market. There are currently two separate fiber optic networks active in Weesp: KPN Netwerk and Open Dutch Fiber (ODF). Open Dutch Fiber has successfully connected around 9,000 addresses in neighborhoods such as Aetsveld, De Horn, and Hogewey. In other, often newer or specifically delineated parts of the city, the KPN network is present.

It is important to know that these networks do not collaborate. Is your address located on the Open Dutch Fiber network? Then you can choose providers like Odido or Freedom Internet, but not KPN. The reverse is also true: if there is a KPN network, you can choose from the KPN family (KPN, Budget Thuis, Youfone, Solcon). Doing a postcode check is therefore more important in Weesp than anywhere else in Amsterdam!
